I began singing at a young age with my brother and three sisters as “The Moyer Family," performing at local churches, fairs and festivals in and around our hometown of Cherry Tree, Pennsylvania.
With a continuing love of music and harmonies, I later became a charter member of the Clustered Spires, the Frederick, Maryland chapter of Sweet Adelines International, an organization promoting a cappella women’s 4-part harmony in barbershop style. It was there I honed my vocal and harmonic skills by singing baritone, known jokingly as the “garbage” part, since it is often an obscure baritone note that completes a chord.
In the mid-2000’s, I sang backing vocals with singer/songwriter Lori Grigsby at venues in and around Frederick and Baltimore, Maryland, and at venues such as Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, Georgia. I moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2009, and in 2013 became backing vocalist for singer/songwriter Kat’Lee Jones from Belgium, now living in Nashville. In 2017, Kat and I joined friend Tonya Noga to form SaLeenYa, a rockin' female acoustic trio that can be found performing at writer's rounds around Nashville, as well as events hosted by the Tennessee Songwriters Association International.
After developing some basic guitar skills once I arrived in Nashville, I began writing my own music. Marceia Bonin helped put the finishing touches on "Flames," my first co-write, and Kat and I co-wrote "Don't You Ever Stop." After hearing my songs, Kat encouraged me to step out into the spotlight to perform them. I was excited to join her on stage in and around her hometown of Gent, Belgium, in June 2015 and again in November 2016, for shows at Cafe de Loge, Den Bascuul, Tjaplin, and Bij de Vieze Gasten. Several of my originals were highlighted during our shows, with a full band of musicians such as Raf Timmermans, Fernante Zeste, Tomas Noel, Marcus Waymaere, Djuro Ongena (Kat's brother), and Marleen Ongena (Kat's sister).
I released my first 6-song EP titled "Suddenly" in April 2017. My style ranges from pop to rock to country, and my songs speak to matters of the heart, from heartbreak and letting go, to celebrations of self-awareness and independence. As an awesome twist, Kat sings backing vocals on "My Song," "Suddenly," and "Don't You Ever Stop." Equally exciting is to have her sister Marleen play saxophone on "By Myself."
In addition to my own EP, my backing vocals can be heard on recordings by Lori Grigsby, Kat’Lee Jones, Jamie Wayz, Doug Alan Wilcox and Georgie Jessup.
